Camu-Camu Extract & Powder

Camu-camu, Myrciaria dubia is a shrub which bears a red/purple cherry like fruit, that grows submerged under water in the Amazon River banks, which is known for its annual river flood seasons typically between April and May.

The harvest is carried out by people living in the riverside communities between the months of December and March when floods are low, and consists of manual selective collection of the ripe fruits. These are then stored in wooden boxes installed in canoes and transported to processing sites where they are washed, have their pulp removed and then get frozen.

This handling process keeps the plant in an organic state, not only because of the flawless environment but also because the inundation allows a natural control of diseases and insect control.

Camu-camu contains extraordinarily high Vitamin C content, what makes it extremely suitable for nutraceutical purposes due to its antioxidant and immune system stimulating properties. Ascorbic acid plays a key role in muscle, skin, and bone development and regeneration, in collagen production, in the regulation of body temperature and in the production of several hormones.
